Dr. Claribel, Miss Etta, and the Brothers Cone: Glimpses into the Lively Relationships Between Sisters and Brothers

Art by Amanda Lupo

The story of Dr. Claribel and her sister Etta are also the story of the Cone Brothers. The sister’s cultivation of artists and literary bohemians such as Matisse, and Gertrude and Leo Stein, along with their collection of arts and objects, has been examined in numerous biographies and art exhibitions. So, too, has the business acumen of their brothers. Now– in a brand new original production based on archival materials and biographies– Touring Theatre of North Carolina shines a light on the relationships between the idiosyncratic sisters and their ten brothers in the context of 20th Century progress.
